Budget Tracking
Learn how to create budgets, link grants, and monitor hour utilization across projects.
Setting Up Budgets
Budget tracking in Logged allows you to set hour limits for your projects and monitor spending in real-time. Navigate to the Projects page and open the project you want to budget. In the project settings, you can define the total budgeted hours for the project. This budget represents the total amount of hours your team plans to spend on this project over its lifetime or a specific period.
Linking Grants and Funding Sources
For teams working with grants or external funding, Logged lets you associate projects with specific funding sources. When creating or editing a project, you can link it to a grant record that includes the funding amount, provider, and period. This connection ensures that hours logged against the project are tracked against the corresponding grant, making it easy to report on utilization to funding bodies.
Monitoring Utilization
Once budgets are set, the Projects page displays a utilization bar for each project showing the percentage of budget consumed. You can see at a glance which projects are on track and which are approaching their limits. The utilization data updates automatically as new time entries are approved, so you always have a current picture of resource consumption.
Color-coded indicators warn you when a project approaches its budget threshold — green means under 75%, yellow for 75-90%, and red when over 90%. This visual system helps prevent budget overruns before they happen.
Budget Reports
Detailed budget reports are available from the Reports page. These reports break down hours consumed versus hours budgeted, showing trends over time. You can use these reports to forecast remaining capacity, justify budget adjustments, or demonstrate efficient resource use to stakeholders and funding agencies.
